Lay off Ponting
Can’t understand the pontificators (including my son Bruce) wanting Ponting replaced as captain of the Test team. Age and a suspect technique might be catching up with him, but he is still the best batsman in the team, so surely certain of selection. And recent disappointment should not cloud our view of his skills as a captain. His logical replacement, Michael Clarke, is struggling with a major technical difficulty and might not hold his place. Watson is the only other player certain of selection alongside Ponting for the next twelve months. He is not yet ready to take on the mantle.
